How to get rid of oily skin


Oily skin can be troublesome especially for acne-prone skin. If you do not take proper care of your skin then excessive oiliness can also cause acne formation, breakouts, pimples whiteheads and blackheads.

Other causes for oily skin includes;

Heredity, stress and hormonal changes. Oily skin needs moderate care so you don’t overdo it that can aggravate or worsen it. Too much washing or bathing, cleansing and use of comedogenic products can cause excessive oil and shine on the skin. So, why not try something natural?

Try these effective homemade to get rid of your oily skin.

1. Apply Aloe vera gel

Use warm water to wash your face. This is the simplest remedy to remove excess oil and dirt from the skin. Extract your gel from fresh aloe leaves and apply to your face. Aloe vera gel is a great moisturizer, gives a fresh feel on your face and also reduce sebum production.  Follow this routine at least twice a day to see effective results.

2. Use salt spray

This is another way to get rid of the oily skin. All you need is a spray bottle to mix a teaspoon of salt with 1 bottle of water. Shake the bottle well so that the salt completely dissolves in water. Spray this mixture on your face, at least once a day and pat it dry. You will notice a visible difference on your skin.

3. Apply mild cleanser and toner

It is vital to remove the excess oil from your skin so you don’t breakout. so use cotton ball or pad to clean off that excess oil during the day. A mixture of vinegar and rose water, works as a wonderful toner for oily skin. Green tea and rose water toners also work quite effectively. Cleansing your face with milk mix with water is also an effective way of getting rid of oil.

4. Exfoliate your skin

There is need to exfoliate your skin at least twice a week, because oily skin attracts more dirt and dust as compared to the other skin types and exfoliation not only helps in shedding off dead cells but also cleans pores. Honey and almond scrub is excellent scrub for oily skin. Combine 2 tbsp. of almond powder with honey to form a paste. Almonds are also effective for removing blemishes from the skin as they have natural skin whitening property.

5.Oily face scrub with Oatmeal and Aloe Vera gel.

Aloe Vera is also very helpful in getting rid of excess oil. Grind 2 teaspoon of oatmeal coarsely and mix it with aloe gel. Massage your face with the paste for few minutes and rinse with cold water. You will notice that oiliness has reduced effectively, after using these scrubs.

6. Face pack

Scrubbing leaves open pores on the face, hence it is important to close those pores with a calming face pack. One such pack that can be made at home is by mixing gram flour (besan) and buttermilk. Form a thick paste (enough to cover your face and neck), and apply it evenly. Leave the pack on the face for 10-15 minutes, before washing it with water. The pack will remove excess oiliness from your skin.

7. Egg white

Egg whites is another an excellent face mask for oily skin. You can either apply it directly on the skin or can be mixed with other face masks. Mix one teaspoon of honey in the egg white along with flour to make a paste. Apply this mask on the face and leave it for about 15 minutes. Once the mask dries, wash and rinse out with warm water. The egg white masks will not only soak the oil but will also tightens and firm your skin.

8. Eat right

It is vital to watch your diet to keep that menacing oil away from your face. Fats from our foods produce oil on our skin. Some person easily breakout after consuming oily food, so, it is best to avoid any fried or fast foods. It is also good to minimize the intake of sugars and starch, as they shoot up insulin levels that escalate the production of oil in skin. So, it is best to stick to healthy food that would take care of your body and skin.

9. Scrub with milk, honey and apple cider vinegar


Another great oily-skin face wash is a combination of 1 teaspoon powdered skin milk with 1 teaspoon honey and about three drops of apple cider vinegar. Rub the mixture into your skin for about 5 minutes, then rinse well with warm water.

10. Astringents

Astringents are used on freshly cleansed skin to deep clean pores, and the tannins in witch hazel work as natural astringents. Wash your face with warm water, soak a cotton ball in witch hazel and rub on your face. For best result, use thrice a week. You can also use rose water as toner for your oily skin to get rid of shine and dirt’s.

11. Apply lemon face pack

Applying a mask to your oily, acne-prone skin once a week can help to absorb the oils and clear up any existing acne. Make a clay mask by mixing 1 teaspoon cosmetic clay with 1 tablespoon witch hazel. Add a few drops of lemon essential oil for a nice scent. Spread the mask onto your face, wait 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water.


Tips to clear oily-skin

Wash your face twice a day with warm water, which helps to remove the oil — but don’t scrub too hard when washing, as this can aggravate your skin and secretes more oil. It’s also important to wash your pillowcases and towels frequently. The oils and bacteria from your skin transfer to your towels and linens, and are then transferred back to your face. Practicing good hygiene will help to prevent the grime from transferring to your skin. Also, avoid consuming greasy, fried foods too often, as well as unhealthy fats. Drink plenty of water, first thing in the morning before eating as this helps to detoxify your system- at least six to eight glasses per day — and eat a diet high in fruits, veggies and fish. When your body is healthy, it is balanced and will produce less oil and your skin becomes normal.
