Skin abscess also known as boils is an infection of the surface of the skin. They are round in shape, large and hard zit with pus-filled at the center. The formation of a boil start with tenderness and redness on the skin. Gradually, white blood cells, protein, and bacteria get filled in the center of the boil and forms pus. They are usually painful and ugly. They are found in various forms, like cystic acne, Hidradenitis suppurativa, and furuncles or carbuncle. Boils are commonly seen in the body parts like breast, scalp, back, head, face, groin, underarms, back, and buttocks. They are highly contagious.

 Symptoms  of Boils

Boils appearance depends on the skin conditions of a person. Here are some warning signs of a boil:

  • Boils develop with a red nodule on the skin.
  • They increase in size with time.
  • The boil is filled with pus.
  • Around the boil, skin turns red, hard and painful.
  • Boils maybe very itchy sometimes.
  • A boil can appear either singly or collectively on the skin.
  • Lymph gets swelled during the development of a boil.

 Causes of Boils

Boils are caused by bacteria infection on the skin. Majorly Staphylococcus aureus bacteria is an example of such bacteria. The Staph enters the body through the hair follicle or small cuts on the skin. Boils are also caused due to blocked sweat glands. Once the boil is popped out, the live staphylococcus bacteria is quite aggressive and can be contagious. So, there is need for precaution measures. Some other reasons for this skin infection are:

  • Alcoholism
  •  Tight clothing
  • Diabetes
  • Poor hygiene
  • weak immune system
  • Malnutrition
  • Exposure to harsh chemicals
  • Chemotherapy

Home Remedies for Healing Boils

What is a boil? How you can heal a boil? Does natural home remedies work? Boils are painful, pus-filled bump under the skin caused by infected, inflamed hair follicles can be treated naturally. They look ugly, so we try to get effective remedies to get rid of this zits quickly. To treat a boil naturally, there are many option ranging from antibiotics, home remedies, beauty products like serums.  Here are some natural home remedies for the treatment of boils.

  • Warm Compress

Warm compress is a simple and easy way to cure boils on the skin. The mild heat helps to relieve and alleviate pain caused by the boil and reduced inflammation. Get some hot water in a bowl, dip a small size clean towel and drain the water out from towel, then placed on the boil for 3-7 minutes intermittently for five times.  Some people use this method to draw salves to pull out pus. For more effective results, you can add pinch of salt to the warm water.

  • Turmeric

Curcumin is the anti-inflammatory agent found in turmeric. It is considered to be a natural blood purifier. It has anti-inflammatory properties, which can get rid of boils and other skin problems. In a glass of warm milk or water, stir one spoon of turmeric powder. Drink this herbal mix three times a day for best result.

Turmeric can also be used with fresh ginger. Make a paste of fresh ginger and turmeric, and apply it directly on the boil.

  • Shea butter

This is another natural ointment for healing boils. Apply shea butter regularly on boils, this will prevent them from getting bigger and eradicate it completely while applying the shea butter on the bigger boils will hasten the healing process of the boils and reduce pain and redness.

·  Milk

Milk is an ancient remedy for the healing of boils. Heat one cup of milk and add three teaspoons of salt in it. Stir the mixture thoroughly. To make the mixture thick, corn flour or flour to it. Apply the thick mixture directly on the boil. For fast results, repeat the process several times in a day.

Milk cream can also be used to minimize the symptoms of boils. Add vinegar and turmeric powder in a teaspoon of milk cream and apply the mixture directly on the boil.

·  Onion

Onion is another effective cure for boils due to its antimicrobial as well as antiseptic properties. Get a slice of onion and place it directly on the boil. Wrap the onion with a cloth so that the onion’s antibacterial properties go inside the skin. For best result apply 2-4 times daily for quick healing.

· Egg

Egg white keeps the skin firmer and smooth.This helps to relieve and heal boils. Get an egg, cook it and peel it. Wet the white cook part of the egg and apply directly on the boil. Cover it with a clean cloth.

  • Palm oil

Palm oil also known as red oil is an ancient way used to cure boils. Apply a drop of palm oil on the boil for few days consistently until it becomes soft and pus- filled. Take a clean pin to pop the pus out from the boil.

  •   Corn Meal

Cornmeal can also be used to remedy boils, it is a natural absorbent and very effective for healing boils. cook ½ cup of water and pour some hot water on the cornmeal to make a thick paste. Apply the paste directly on the boil and cover it with a clean cloth. Until the pus drains out, repeat the process multiple times a day for best result.

·  Neem

Neem also known as Indian Lilac (margosa) because of its potency as medicine, helps cure so many ailment and skin problems is not an exemption. The Indian so much believe on this herbs.  This herbs has anti-bacterial and anti-microbial properties. It is effective for treating boils and providing relief in the pain. Make a paste of a handful of neem leaves and apply the paste directly on the boil.

Cook some neem leaves in the water until the water evaporates to one-third. Use the boiled water to rinse the infected area. You can also drink the water, it looks like lipton tea which also helps to purify the blood.

·  Aloe Vera

Aloe vera has strong anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. It can lessen the inflammation, redness and discomfort. Apply pure aloe vera gel and apply it directly to the boil often to get quick result.

· Garlic

Another effective way used in treating boils is garlic. Prepare a paste of fresh garlic cloves. Apply it directly on the boil.

Alternatively, you can eat 2-3 garlic cloves daily to get rid of boils and other skin diseases.

  • Tomatoes

Take 2-3 tomatoes and make a thick paste and apply it on the boils. This is one of the easiest and simplest home remedies to cure this condition.

  • Vinegar

Take a cotton pad soaked with vinegar, a size that fits the boiled area and cover the boils with a bandage. In a day or two, the boil will dry and pop out.
