Every woman wants a smooth fresh looking hand that is supple, soft and smooth. Palms are often discoloured and harden due to negative impact of chemicals, medications, hard work, and even the climates (dryness and harsh weather).

Most especially home chores, from the use of detergents, bar soaps and liquid soaps formed from chemicals compound in washing dishes, clothes and other domestic wares which dries out the hands and palms. When you are subjected to hard labor like local farming, carpentry, oil processing, fufu making, black smith work, brick layering just to mention a few. Jobs like these also hardens the palms.

As we all know we have different types of skin, although every skin type is affected by harsh weather. Bad climates like the harmattan usually have negative effect on the skin due to excessive dryness. There is need to really moisturize and hydrate the skin more during this times, so as to keep it moisten always. But you need to consume water regularly to stay hydrated also. The harmattan season can dry, harden and makes the hands and palms very tough and rough. We see majority of people are affected with athlete’s foot, cracked lips and cracked feet during this season. This becomes a concern for those with the dry skin type and more effort is needed to combat this problem, as this leads to more dryness if good skincare regime is not incorporated.

The “Pako” palms aren’t sexy and gentle to touch and feel. just mere handshake with the next person you feel the palms whether they are soft or hard. Here are some wonderful home remedies to use to get a soft and supple hands and palms.

1. Olive oil and sugar

  •  Mix 1 tbsp. of sugar
  •  1 tbsp. of Olive oil

Method

Add 1 tbsp sugar into 1 tbsp olive oil in a bowl and mix together. Fetch some of the scrubs into your palm and rub your palm together.

Massage your fingers and hands with gentle squeezing and circular motions for about 30 seconds.

 

Then relax your palms and let the scrub sink in for another 30 seconds.

Wash out your hands with warm water and pat dry with a clean towel. Apply your hand lotion or any moisturizer of your choice immediately.

2. Baking soda, lemon and honey

  • 1 lemon
  • 3 tbsp. of honey
  • 1 tbsp. of baking soda

Method

In a small container, mix 2 teaspoons of lemon, honey and baking soda together all the ingredients evenly.

Now apply this mixture onto your hands, rubbing it through and massaging your hands for a minute.

Allow the mixture to sit on your hands for five to 10 minutes then wash your hands in warm water. Apply your moisturizer to lock in moisture.

 

Do not use soap directly afterward. Repeat this process at least twice a week to remove discoloration and promote soft healthy-looking hands.

3. Vaseline

Petroleum jelly is a very common staple in most bathroom cabinets and one of the widely used moisturizers for newborn, youth and oldies.

Method

Wash your hands with lukewarm water and coat your hands with Vaseline every night before you go to bed.

4. Egg Yolk, Honey, and Almonds

  • 1 tbsp. of honey
  • ½ tbsp. of crushed almonds
  • 1 tbsp. of rose water
  • 1 egg yolk

Egg yolk contains high amounts of Vitamin A, while almonds boost the Vitamin E content in your skin.

This mixture exfoliates, moisturizes and nourishes your hands, giving you those supple hands you deserve.

Method

Add 1 tsp of honey, ½ tbsp of crushed almonds and a hint of rose water to an egg yolk. Work them into a paste.

Massage your hands with this mixture for 10 minutes and let it stay for 15-20 minutes before rinsing it off with warm water. Fetch some of the scrubs into your palm and rub your palm together.

5. Glycerine and vitamin e oil

This combine together helps in nourishing the skin so well that it excellent for chapped, scaly, rough and dry patches on the skin. Mix glycerine with vitamin e oil and store in a spray bottle. Apply morning and night within 2 weeks, you definitely going to see positive result on the palms and hands. It softens and smoothens the skin and also remove spot and scars.

6. Coconut oil and Shea butter

Shea butter and coconut oil are natural wonderful serum for a great skin. Because they contain rich nutrients that will feed your skin for supple, velvety and smooth look. Mix coconut oil to liquefied shea butter (melting shea butter on low heat) in a bowl. Store in a clean container and apply on the hands and palms daily, especially every night before bed time.

7. Apply moisturizer

Always moisturize your hands and palms after using detergents and soaps to keep off dryness.
